Remembering the Goal

This post has been inspired by a long, long voicemail message my friend E left me yesterday. E is doing her second MS150 this weekend, the same weekend I’ll be doing my Half-Ironman triathlon. In her message she wished me good luck and said I’d be so happy when I reach my goal. Reach my goal- I want to type it again, I want to say it again so that I sticks in my head.

After months of training and focusing on workouts, intervals, form, fit, and nutrition, the ultimate goal and where we were when we made that goal is often forgotten about. I’ve focused on the date so much and making sure I get every workout in so that I’ll be ready, I’ve forgotten the magnitude of my goal: to complete a Half-Ironman. The weight of this goal really hits when I think of my first sprint triathlon. Then when I think about how much prep I put in to my first Olympic triathlon. Now I’m on the threshold of my first Half-Ironman and I’ve lost sight of the taste of that goal.\

These final days before I step to the line I am focusing on this goal. I have been given so much and had so many opportunities in my life that people have never had. This will be a small thing compared to what some people deal with in their life. This is a way to stretch and challenge myself.

Each time I face adversity, I grow from it.

Each time I have to dig deep to find strength, I learn something about myself.

Each time I feel pain in my body, I am blessed to have the opportunity to overcome it.

I will not be alone in this race. There will be so many people out there with me, going through the same experience I will be. I will strengthened by all those who support me and they will be there with me in spirit the whole time.

I now have a hold on my goal and the feelings that go with it. I am strong, I am ready, and I will be blessed.

Philippians 4:13

I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Isaiah 41:10

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.”

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men…”

1 John 4:4

“You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

"Forget pain, overcome mishap, crush self doubt, and focus only on your victory."

You will Swim Blessed. Ride Blessed. And, Run Blessed. Each move you make is one step closer to the finish. You are halfway there.
